We are delighted that Gallery artist Tuëma Pattie's artworks have been featured in the recently published South Downs Showcase book, celebrating over 200 years of the area’s creative history and its rich significance for artists, sculptors, composers and writers. Lord Egremont, in an especially written foreword to the publication, comments that “books such as this not only remind us of past achievement but prompt confidence that there must be more to come”.
Aimed at residents and visitors alike, the new book written by local author and a former senior diplomat Peter Beckingham, and published as a not-for-profit venture by the Lodsworth Heritage Society, showcases both past and present artists. It includes chapters describing J M W Turner’s stays at Petworth House; the range of carvings and statues commissioned by his friend the Third Earl of Egremont; and the rise to international prominence of Lavington Common-based artist Ivon Hitchens and subsequently his son John.
The book also features Cynthia Corbett Gallery-represented and critically acclaimed artist Tuëma Pattie (b.1938), whose first international solo exhibition took place in October 2020 in La Galleria, Pall Mall, St. James's, London.
