Boulton’s paintings are Nature Morte of flora. Her work is a response to historical references within this genre, reimagined into a contemporary pictorial language. Painting from memory, she combines both conscious and unconscious responses, oscillating between control and abandon, spontaneity and intent. Her paintings are an ongoing conversation between the past and the present, where the flowers symbolise the transience of life and each brushstroke capture moments in time.
