Using the traditional techniques of slip-casting and press-moulding to produce a vessel form I embed previously fired clay sprigs and painterly layers of porcelain stains onto the interior of a plaster mould. The mould is then closed and several layers of coloured liquid clays are poured and un-poured to build up further layers of surface . Once the clay is dry the mould is opened and certain visual possibilities reveal themselves through shape, colour and texture. More layering of colour stains, or incising, or the addition of further sprigs, are added to build up the visual narrative.
