The seed of my current body of work was based on a previous piece I made, responding to a porcelain pot pourri vase, an object of decadence and luxury from 18th century France to hide the stench of rot, death and decay from the surrounding environment. It was an object of escape and wonder. This inspired me to further investigate the internal world of an object and of ourselves and how we navigate our environments. Questioning concepts of the seen/unseen, the beauty in our flaws, and how colour and form can be used to express a vivid landscape in which to explore. Gathering knowledge, inspiration and by observing and understanding art from the past we can better navigate who we are as people today, connecting us and bringing us closer to the world we live in now. It’s the underlying thread that informs our everyday life. A language for us to interpret, a visual literacy to master living in a visual world.
